Dispatch 02 The climate we work against

Kerala is humid nine months of the year. A room that feels fine in Bangalore is a sticky, stagnant argument here by 11 a.m.

Position

Every design choice we make starts from humidity, not temperature. Anyone can push air. Pulling water out of it, cheaply and quietly, for fifteen years, is the actual job. We size equipment for the load you'll have in August, not the showroom brochure.

Most of our service calls come from systems someone else sold: 2-ton units in 3-ton rooms, ducts run through un-insulated attics, drain lines pitched wrong. We quote for the building, not the catalogue.

Load, median

680W/m²

Coastal Kerala cooling load, April peak, 1.5-storey residence. Twice the Delhi winter equivalent.

Installations logged across the Aircon Group in Kerala since 1999. Five offices, fourteen-district footprint.

Register 03 Air conditioning: five rooms, one company

Every room we cool is a small argument with the weather outside.

Air conditioning, at Modern Aircon, means sensible heat and latent humidity dealt with together. From a single bedroom split in Kaloor to a 200-ton variable refrigerant flow at Kakkanad, the design principle is the same: size it for August, commission it with a manometer, service it on a calendar.

↓ The gauge drops with the page. Keep reading.

Residential splits, sized for the room & the roof above it.

Carrier, Daikin, LG, Midea, Godrej and Toshiba: authorised for all six. We quote from a load calculation, not a catalogue multiplier, and we tell you in writing which tonnage fits. If a 1.5-ton will hold, we will not sell you a 2-ton to pad the invoice.

Air-cooled scroll up to 100 TR, screw and centrifugal above that. Cooling towers, primary-secondary pumping, and the realism that pump heads routinely get value-engineered out. We tell you before we install what that compromise will cost you in year five.

End of air conditioning

The last room we cooled was at four degrees.

Above zero, water stays liquid. The compressor pulls sensible heat out, the coil drains it away, the room sits at its set point. This is the job for nine-tenths of the buildings we walk into.

Scroll sideways. The register freezes next.
Latent heat of fusion · 334 kJ/kg of H₂O
0.0°C

The temperature holds. Energy keeps going in, 334 kilojoules per kilogram, and the column refuses to move. Water is turning into ice.
This is where air conditioning ends and refrigeration begins.

Start of refrigeration

Below zero, we are not cooling. We are preserving.

Under the freezing line, every job is a promise against spoilage. A seafood processor losing an hour of refrigeration loses a tonne. Our reefer trucks, cold rooms and blast freezers are sized for what happens when the power cuts at 2 a.m. and the generator takes forty seconds to come up.

Continue down · the register keeps falling.
Register 05 Refrigeration: things that perish, kept

Below the freezing line, we keep the cold chain honest from dock to freezer.

Method 06 From call to commissioning

Four weeks, usually. Four steps, always.

i.Survey
We show up with a tape measure and a thermal camera.

Load calculation from first principles, not a rule-of-thumb multiplier. We photograph the ceiling void, the electrical panel, the condenser sightlines. Report in your inbox within 72 hours.

Day 1–3
ii.Proposal
One quotation. Three equipment options. No asterisks.

Capex, opex, noise figures and warranty matrix in a single PDF. We tell you which option we'd put in our own house, and why. Revisions free until signed.

Day 4–7
iii.Install
Two engineers, one site lead, dust sheets, daily clean-up.

Drawings stamped, copper brazed, vacuum pulled to 500 microns, refrigerant weighed in. Photograph every braze joint before insulation. We leave the site tidier than we found it.

Day 8–24
iv.Hand-over
Commissioning report, walk-through, and a calendar.

Temperature + RH logged over 48 hours, balanced airflow per grille, labelled isolators. Then the first AMC visit lands on your calendar three months out. Automatically.

Day 25–28
